The significant delays in appointment processes at the Civil Registry, along with the introduction of the new Civil Registry law, have allowed notaries to carry out this important procedure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h2><b>What is the Nationality Oath?<\/b><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The well-known Nationality Oath refers precisely to the declaration of intent regarding nationality and civil residence. It is the final step an immigrant must take to ultimately obtain Spanish nationality.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the Nationality Oath is taken, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the next step is to register with the Civil Registry as Spanish citizens, in order to issue the corresponding Birth Certificate.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h3><b>Oath or Promise?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The individual, according to their beliefs or preference, can choose between the oath or the promise. Both have the same validity under the law.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h3><b>What documentation is required?<\/b><\/h3><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nationality grant resolution.<\/span><\/h4><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Birth certificate from the country of origin.<\/span><\/h4><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Criminal record certificate from the country of origin.<\/span><\/h4><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valid passport.<\/span><\/h4><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All foreign documents must be accompanied by a sworn translation into Spanish and be apostilled if necessary.<\/span><\/p><h3><b>How much time do I have to complete this process?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once Spanish nationality is granted and you receive the corresponding notification, you will have a maximum period of 180 days to complete it.<\/span><\/p><h2><b>What questions are asked during the Oath of Nationality?<\/b><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Oath of Nationality is a formal act in which the foreign citizen primarily answers <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">whether they swear allegiance to the King, the Spanish legal system, and to its laws.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h3><b>Do I have to renounce my nationality to acquire Spanish nationality?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, as long as the country in question does not have a dual nationality agreement with Spain. In that case, such renunciation will not be necessary.
